In working with Joe’s Jeans and high-end denim for the past five years the number one question I get from the customer is… What would you suggest I do when I wash my jeans? I tell them exactly what my co-workers and I do… Wear your jeans as long as you can without washing them. This will help keep the Joe’s Jean fit and wash as long as possible. Premium denim will, most of the time, have a cotton elastic, Lycra, or even polyurethane blend. It can be extremely flexible when used as a foam insulator in construction or a foam cushion in upholstery. It can be deformed over and over and still maintain its original shape; in other words, it has a structural memory. So when it comes time to wash your Joe’s we recommend: cold water, on delicate cycle, with a delicate detergent. With the dark Joe’s Jeans you can use Woolite dark ($5.99 at Walgreens). Have light and dark washes in Joe’s and would like to use one detergent for both? I would say go with my favorite Forever New Delicate Fabric Wash (www.barenecessities.com $15.99).
Forever New is a pure organic and biodegradable fabric wash. It gently floats away what you might think are impossible stains like grease, lipstick and blood. In fact, Forever New can actually renew fabrics that were cleaned with other products. With most traditional petroleum-based laundry products, no matter how many times you rinse, a filmy residue remains that attracts dirt dulls color and luster. This same residue, when left on a garment during the drying process, will break down those stretch fibers that create form and fit, leaving garments old before their time. Always turn jeans inside out when you're washing them to protect the color, and NEVER put your denim in the dryer- this breaks down the stretch in the fabric and ruins the fit. Instead, try laying them over the back of a chair to dry or putting them in the bathroom while taking a hot shower.
Make sure when you stop into your local Joe’s boutique and are looking for your next pair of Joe’s Jeans to hit the town in that they fit tight to your body; remember they will stretch out and fit the way you want them to. Taking care of your premium denim, like Joe’s, with the tips above, will insure a longer lasting pair of your favorite go-to jeans.
